  • Hakea's have conspicuous flowers and can be very showy followed by woody nut-like fruits.

  • Hakea flowering periods vary with some flowering in each season.

  • Hakea's love a warmer spot in the garden with good drainage in Canberra

  • Hakea's are drought and hardy to most frost once established but may require some protection when small

  • Hakea's are bird and insect attracting and some of the spikier Hakea's provides for great small bird habitat

  • Prune for shape after flowering but avoid pruning when frosts are still imminent
